European Championship 2010

September 18 and 19

Put these dates in your agenda! More information will follow later this year!

What about the one design class?

What's it going to be: 222 or 209?

So, what's going to happen with the 222's and 209's on the next EC? Didn't we have a one design class? True, but I think it's hard to ignore twelve years of development. The focus of the main racing class will shift from 222 to 209 in 2010 of 2011.
The main goal is a race that's as honest as possible, with equal equipped contestants and equal chances.
The difference in speed on flat terrain is not that big: don't expect to get rid of a 222 in the slipstream of your 209 easily when both riders have equal strength!
I'd love to provide every participant with a 209, but that's just not realistic... Maybe I should provide 222's to the participants who have a 209, but that's something I can't assess at this moment. Let's see how it is in August and them make a decision on how to proceed, depending on the subscriptions and available rowingbikes.

And even if the two types will be mixed in the races, it shouldn't have much impact on the fun and competition. It the fun of participating, winning is privileged to just one person and in the end that's a shared joy :-)
